A Week of Reflection, Rescue, and Relentless Love
Husky Halfway House Weekly Recap
If we lived by the values our dogs do, loyalty, forgiveness, joy, we’d all be better humans. But this week, we’re reminded that the world of rescue is not always light-filled. It’s heavy. It’s human. And it’s heartbreakingly real.
Mourning the Loss of a Fellow Rescuer
This week began with a gut-wrenching tragedy: the death of Mikayla Raines, founder of Save A Fox. Mikayla’s passing by suicide, following persistent bullying by others in the rescue world, has sent shockwaves through the community. Jenni, our founder, spoke openly about the darkness that often hides behind rescue missions. In a world that claims to fight for the voiceless, too many rescuers are left battling alone.
Jenni’s full post and heartfelt video can be found here.
“They are the light. They are my light. And because of them, I’ll stay another day—and every day.”
– Jenni D, Husky Halfway House
We vow to do better. We choose kindness. We choose light.

Five Huskies, Five Homes
This week, five more huskies are no longer halfway home. We said goodbye with hugs, happy tears, and plenty of chicken nuggets. Every forever family starts with a ride—and your donations made these happen. Watch the sendoff here.
One of those success stories? Pablo—a former stray turned family dog. After surviving Oklahoma storms and shelter stress, Pablo now lounges in an office, plays with his new Rottweiler sibling, and is finally home. Read Pablo’s No Longer Halfway Home story.
Meet the Huskies Still Waiting
💥 Zariah: Brains, Zoomies, and a Whole Lot of Sass
Estimated Age: 4 years, 1 month
Rescued From: Moore Shelter euthanasia list
Days at H3: 40 and counting
Zariah is the kind of husky who walks into a room and owns it.
She was rescued alongside her buddy Amberly after landing on the euth list at Moore Shelter, and within days of arriving at Husky Halfway House, she had everyone wrapped around her giant-eared little paw. She’s a fast learner, a snack-motivated goofball, and a total riot from sun-up to bedtime zoomies.
She gives paw before you even ask (seriously, blink and it’s already happening), and she thrives on structure, attention, and the chance to show off. Zariah is a medium-to-high energy husky with a sharp mind and even sharper reflexes—if you’re not fast, your treat might be gone before you finish the sentence.
She’d thrive in a home with:
An experienced husky handler or structured household
A playful, well-balanced pack
A sense of humor (because this girl is hilarious)
Plenty of space for zoomies, training games, and snuggle recovery
Zariah doesn’t just want to be your dog. She wants to be your sidekick, your adventure buddy, and your personal comedy show. Give her a chance—and bring snacks.
“Hi!! I’m Zariah and YES I will give you my paw before you even ask 🐾 I’m tall, goofy, full of love, and so ready to run, play, and love my forever family with everything I’ve got!”
💧 Calgary: Head-Shy to Hug-Seeking, This Water Boy Is Ready to Bloom
Estimated Age: Almost 4
Rescued From: San Bernardino County
Days at H3: 160
Calgary is what happens when patience meets possibility.
He arrived shy, unsure, and head-shy—unsure if hands meant safety or fear. But in just five months, this sweet, water-loving boy has made one of the most beautiful transformations we’ve seen. Now? He sits calmly for his leash, seeks out affection, and lights up every time he’s near a splash zone.
This boy lives for water. Kiddie pool? Heaven. Hose? Bring it. Sunshine and snacks? Yes, please.
Calgary would thrive in:
A medium-energy home with a backyard and a hose
A family who understands how far he’s come and is excited to help him keep growing
A home with other friendly dogs to play with and learn from
He’s gentle, loving, and a little quirky—and if you’ve got water and love, he’s already yours.
“Hi! I’m Calgary, and if you’ve got water, treats, and a good game of chase—I’m already your biggest fan 💧 I’ve come a long way, and I’m ready to love my people and play all day with my new pack.”
🐾 Lafayette & Bruno: A Bond Forged by Loss, Strengthened by Love
Estimated Ages:
Lafayette – 4 years, 5 months
Bruno – 3 years, 5 months
Rescued From: Midwest puppy mill
Time at H3: Since August 2022
Bonded Pair – Must Be Adopted Together
Lafayette and Bruno didn’t start out together, but life had other plans. Both boys were rescued from a puppy mill—under-socialized, unsure, and carrying the quiet grief that comes from a life without freedom or love.
Lafayette originally arrived with his brother O’Malley. When O’Malley passed away, Lafayette was lost. But then came Bruno—slightly younger, slightly chubbier, and just the right kind of calm. What started as cautious companionship turned into a lifeline.
Now, they’re inseparable.
They are:
Medium energy, low drama
Shy at first, but deeply affectionate once bonded
Gentle, loyal, and devoted to each other and their people
Obsessed with raccoon balls and soft treats (especially Bruno, the snack king)
These boys need a home that understands loss, sees the quiet love in a slow tail wag, and respects the beauty of bonded souls who found each other after everything they’ve been through.
They’ve waited nearly two years. Let’s not make them wait any longer.
“I’m Lafayette. I’m quiet, loyal, and I don’t need much: just my brother Bruno, a soft bed, and someone patient enough to let me come around in my own time.”
“And I’m Bruno! I’m the snack guy. The sunshine guy. Lafayette’s my anchor, and I’m his hype man. We’re a perfect pair. We just need someone to make it official.
Sierra’s bath drama gave us soggy side-eyes and post-bath zoomies. See her protest.
Freddie Mercury got a blowout and proved bite risks can become kiss monsters. Watch the glow-up.
