Things move fast around here, and the past few days have been packed with rescues, adoptions, fundraisers, and plenty of husky antics. Here’s a roundup of what’s been going on at H3.
Immortalizing Kaliska

Though we lost Kaliska back in August, the H3 family has been working to keep her story alive. With Cameo’s art bringing her to life on the page, Kaliska’s Story—the second installment of the Halfway Huskies series—is now open for preorder. Each book comes signed by Cameo and Carter, with a sticker of Kaliska’s nose print to remember her by.
Two collector cards are available this month—one of Kaliska alone and one of her with Carter—and next month she’ll even have her own special playing card in the style of Odin’s.
Every purchase helps honor Kaliska while also supporting the seniors still here—Molly, Luna, Suru, and Robbie.

$5 Friday & Bravecto Bill
Ever bought Bravecto for 70 dogs at once? That’s a $4,000 bill. Jenni kicked off $5 Friday asking for help to cover it—because while Nugget won’t cost much today, his heartworm treatments and months of care will add up. If you’ve got five, today’s the day to throw it in the pot!

Nugget’s Rescue Journey
Meet Nugget (formerly Kota), the boy who was hiding under a trailer in the pouring rain. He made it safely to us last night, and today he’s already back from the vet with a tough report card: high heartworm positive, infected teeth, hookworms, and skin irritation. It’s a long road ahead—but his tail is wagging, and that’s what counts. 💙 From here on out, it’s all love for Nugget. Kaioa’s Happy Ending
Persephone arrived sick and weary from a crowded shelter. At H3, she found her footing, learned to run in a pack, and finally heard the words every husky waits for: You’re getting adopted. Now she’s Kaioa, and she has a forever home with Phyllis. This time, she didn’t go halfway—she went all the way home. Adoption Highlights
Chucky
Chucky has been with us for 1,080 days, and in that time he’s earned the title of Catch Me If You Can Champ. This almost-6-year-old loves to play chase—especially when you’re trying to put a leash on him. He’s all about zoomies and laughter, but underneath the goofy streak he’s a medium-energy guy who’s just as happy to crash with a meaty treat and a soft bed. Chucky does great in our packs as long as he has space to retreat when things get rowdy. Playful, affectionate, and ready for his forever buddy, he’s a husky who will keep you on your toes and then curl up by your side.
Jet
When Jet came to us from OKC just 90 days ago, he was suffering from severe mange across his back. Weeks of care and healing later, he’s glowing with health and personality. Jet is almost 6 years old, full of energy and love, and happiest when he’s right next to his person. He’s not big on sharing food—or attention—so separate feedings and mindful management will be important. But in return, you’ll have a devoted shadow dog who will zoom, play, and then collapse on the couch just to be near you. Jet is your boy if you’re looking for a Velcro companion who never wants to be left behind.
Cody
Cody is a 9-year-old gentleman who’s been waiting over 1,300 days—that’s nearly 3 ½ years—for his forever home. This senior husky isn’t looking for chaos or high-energy puppy life. What he does want is a calm, loving home where he can have his own space, his own food bowl, and plenty of time in your lap. Don’t let his occasional grumpy-old-man face fool you—he’s a huge softie who will happily cuddle for hours, break into a playful chase when the mood strikes, and never let you forget the treat jar exists. Cody is medium energy, affectionate, and ready to finally trade kennel life for couch life.
Glacier
At 7 years and 9 months old, Glacier has been with us for over 1,700 days—nearly 5 years—making him one of our longest residents. When he first arrived, he was a total ankle-biting “landshark,” full of sass and chaos. Over time, he’s mellowed into a grumpy-but-lovable husky with a big belly and an even bigger heart. Glacier loves his people, enjoys playtime, and then stretches out to sunbathe the afternoon away. He’s medium-to-low energy now and would thrive either as an only dog or in a smaller, respectful pack. He’s been waiting a long time for his forever couch—and he’s more than ready to claim it.

Meanwhile, Stella had a whole lot to howl about—until she spotted Carter sneaking by.

Phoenix Check-In
Melissa offered him his daily cookie. He took it! He wasn’t quite ready to eat it yet—but baby steps still count. 💙 https://www.huskyhalfwayhouse.org/series?wix-vod-video-id=bb77fb8845b24ff59f0375a03986209e&wix-vod-comp-id=comp-ldcckwnv
Behind the Scenes
Melissa shared a glimpse of what it really takes to keep Husky Halfway House running day after day. With 170 huskies in our care, the list of expenses never stops: payroll for our hardworking staff, vet bills for both routine and emergency care, food by the truckload, utilities to keep water and lights on, and constant repairs around the property.
And then there are the medications. Bravecto, the flea and tick preventative, is a 3-month dose—but when 70 dogs all come due at once, it means ordering another huge supply even while we’re still paying off the last bill. That’s how we ended up with a $4,000 balance on top of everything else. Costs like these hit hard when multiplied across the entire pack.
The crew that makes all of this possible is just ten people—seven on a normal day—covering everything from sunup to well past sundown. They rotate packs so every husky gets exercise, keep kennels safe and clean, deliver daily meds, and monitor medical cases closely. Annabelle checks in on the sick and recovering, Carter focuses on getting adoptables in front of potential families, and the cleaning team holds the line so Melissa and Jenni can step in where they’re needed most.
On top of that, the very same onsite team also creates the photos, videos, and livestreams that keep supporters connected and help the huskies find homes. Social media is our lifeblood—it drives adoptions and donations—and while our remote team helps bridge the gap by handling engagement and scheduling, all of that content starts with the people working hands-on with the huskies.
And then there are the special cases—the ones who can’t be left unchecked. Melissa put it best:
“Here is Bumble. Looking at me. She needs me.
She has scar tissue in her lungs. If she gets too excited or pushes herself too hard, it can turn dangerous fast.
She needs frequent check-ins and steady attention.
Before I sleep, I have to check again: How’s the accounts looking? What do we need before tomorrow starts? What about next week?”
Caring for dogs like Bumble is constant, and even in those quiet nighttime moments, the financial reality never leaves Melissa’s mind. If she has to lay anyone off, she (or Jenni) has to pick up their work herself—on top of everything else. And if she’s buried in the day-to-day just trying to keep up, who makes sure Bumble gets the careful eyes and steady attention she needs?
That’s why every dollar matters—it doesn’t just pay bills, it keeps people in place who make sure every husky, especially the vulnerable ones, gets the care they can’t live without.
