Introducing Project 100. Cubed.

Team H3: your resident Californian, Bethany, here to tell you our newest dastardly life-saving scheme. We’re going to do this one together.

We’re going to raise $100,000. We’re going to get 100 Halfway Huskies into adoptive and foster homes. And then we’re going to use that money, and newly-created space at the rescue, to rescue 100 more California huskies.

How do we do this? Well first, we’re going to use the coming week—my birthday week—to generate the funds. I’m going to contribute (up to) $50,000, and we ask that you help us generate the other $50,000. There will be ways for everyone to help, through:

- Direct donations, which I will match

- Adopting or fostering our Halfway Huskies, which will free up space for our new rescues AND generate additional donations from me to H3 to help pay for our new rescues

- Helping us get the word out on social media and obtain new followers, which will also generate additional donations from me to H3 for our new rescues

Stay tuned for tomorrow, when we’ll give you more details on how to participate.

This intake hold has been hard. We’re itching to get back to rescuing. Nothing compares to the feeling of walking a kill-listed husky out of a shelter and knowing they are safe. So, let’s make this happen, as a team.

But first, a reminder of what we’re working towards—in the form of my birthday rescue, Peppermint—a sweet 3-year-old husky described as “energetic” and “smart,” who “loves being around people.” She was scheduled to die this morning in Modesto, CA. Why? Seemingly because she was also “not testing well with other dogs right now…and is a bit crabby with them and will suddenly try to bite them without warning” “is showing signs of resource guarding behavior,” and “would be best in a home with no small children and with an experienced handler,” ideally with “breed experience.”

This description seemingly scared off anyone else who might have saved her. H3’s take? As Jenni put it, if under pressure in a kill facility, “I’d be an angry bitey bitch too.” Whereupon, we promptly tagged Peppermint.

Now that Peppermint’s story no longer ends today, we’re going to rewrite it. We’re going to make her feel safe again and considerably less “crabby.” And we’ll use Peppermint to help keep us motivated, as a community, to raise $100,000 and place 100 dogs – so we can send Eufaula, Oklahoma 100 more Californian Peppermints.

You in?

100% in!!! I wish I owned my own property so I could help more with everything you do. I will, however, do everything I can from my end until I win the lottery. LOL Then Jenni, Bethany, and all the rest of the amazing folks with H3 and I will be having a much different conversation about rescue and how to start and succeed from Washington State! <3
