Weekly Husky Recap: July 1–8 2025
This week at Husky Halfway House was nothing short of explosive—in mostly all the best ways. From heartfelt reunions and emotional rescue rides to summer sweepstakes, Fourth of July fireworks, and the arrival of the Freedom Five, here’s everything that made this week unforgettable.
🚐 Rescue Rides & Freedom Five Arrival
This week’s spotlight? The Freedom Five—five lucky huskies rescued from the Avenal shelter in California just in time for Independence Day. Their rescue was emotional and urgent, marked by a powerful testimony from the shelter manager who refuses to let good dogs die simply because of space.
To celebrate, we threw a full-on July 4th Puppy Pajama Party (P3) with the G3—plus Melissa, Mike, Rob, and the rest of the crew. There were pup cups, fireworks, coloring books, and chaos—just the way we like it

Emergency Help for Brick — Matched Up to $1,500
This week, one of our own needed help.
Brick, the husky with the 🎵 boots with the fur 🎵, underwent emergency surgery for a massive infected swelling. The vet placed a drain, but couldn’t remove the full mass. Another surgery may still be needed.
His person? Tracy—one of our own team members. And now she’s fighting to save her own dog while still showing up for ours.
A generous family has offered to match donations up to $1,500. That would cover Brick’s $1,043 bill and help us buy desperately needed flea meds for the rest of the pack.

💙 Heartfelt Visits: From Rescued to Forever
Jenni spent the week on the East Coast visiting alumni Halfway Huskies and reconnecting with some of her first rescues:
Tesla (adopted in 2020): Once shy, now confident enough for kisses and selfies 💋 https://www.facebook.com/100069547202800/posts/pfbid02vTQtQzwMRiKkvoou6qg3wiKWZQywUXe9JkGPT57H1SddA365Qky5BxfEKu6Y34RLl/
Xena & Ambria: Two OG halfway girls, thriving in their homes
Clarissa & Fiona: Pupdates that warm your heart
These visits were raw, emotional proof that the work we’re doing matters.

🐾 Halfway Husky Highlights
🔵 Zeus
A 3-year-old water-loving goofball from Apple Valley who acts tough—but is a total softie with his people. Needs a confident home, maybe as the only dog.
🎤 Freddie Mercury
This vocal diva is 4 years old and came from the OKC shelter. He’s food-motivated, selective with people, and thrives as a one-dog show.
⚡ Huckleberry Finn
A 3-year-old energy bomb with a heart of gold. His bestie Zariah is adopted, so he’s looking for a new buddy.
🔥 Burns
Estimated at 4.5 years, Burns is affectionate with people but prefers to be your one and only dog. His love language? Forehead kisses.
🐺 Loki
An almost-senior sweet boy featured in a live “Husky Highlight” with Carter and Annabelle.
Meet Olaf
Olaf is full of sass, snacks, and opinions—and he’s not afraid to let you know it. This medium-energy guy loves chest scratches, treats, and digging up the yard like it's his job. He’s not into toys, but he is into drama: he’ll stir up the pack, then run away laughing. 😅
He’s sweet with people but would do best as your one and only king—no siblings, just snacks and sunshine. 💙
“Hi, I’m Olaf. Got treats? Got a yard? Cool, I’m yours.”
🐶 Adoptions & “No Longer Halfway Home”
Madden was adopted and celebrated with a toy shopping trip (pink flamingo secured 🦩).

❤️ Behind the Scenes: The Noise, The Love, The Fight
Fireworks aren’t just a celebration—they’re a trigger. At the rescue, we spent July 4th securing huskies from noise trauma while continuing to rescue, fundraise, and tell their stories. Because that’s what we do.
When the world gets loud, we get louder—for the ones who have no voice.
