Food Shortages, Emergency Surgeries, a $50K Lifeline—and 204 Lives Still Hanging in the Balance

Rescue Recap: July 9–15, 2025

If you’ve been following Husky Halfway House this past week, you’ve seen it all: chaos, heartbreak, healing, hustle, and an unexpected miracle. From a critical food shortage and two emergency medical cases to a $50,000 matching grant and the devastating loss of a legendary husky, the past few days have brought every emotion imaginable.

But through it all, one thing remains clear: you show up. And that support? It’s keeping us going.

💥 Breaking News: $50,000 Matching Grant Announced

After one of the most vulnerable posts Jenni has ever written—where she admitted defeat felt closer than hope—a friend stepped in with a lifeline.

💸 Through July 31, every dollar donated will be matched up to $50,000.

This match will:

  • Fund cabin construction for adoptive families

  • Complete the rescue’s grooming suite

  • Cover $20,000 in electrical work

  • Sustain daily operations

This is the difference between shutting down… and building a future.

Every sweepstakes ticket, every shirt, every dollar donated counts toward this match.

🍽️ Food Shortage: When Two Days Feels Like Two Hours

Midweek, we walked into the food building and realized we were almost completely out of kibble. Two days of food left. That’s it. No reserves.

Thanks to our community, pallets of Purina One began arriving within hours. Dry food, wet food, treats—every donation was a lifeline.

🩺 Emergency Medical Updates: Brick & Pepino

💙 Brick’s Emergency Surgery—Covered Thanks to You

Brick was rushed into surgery this week for a massive, infected swelling that had our team terrified. There was no clear tumor, just deep inflammation. The vet placed a drain and started meds, with hopes of a follow-up procedure once the swelling subsides.

We needed $1,043 to cover the cost—and YOU covered it.

“Because of your support, Brick is home, healing, and stealing toys again. You didn’t just save his life—you gave his person peace.” – Tracy, Brick’s mom & H3 team member

🩹 Pepino’s Tail Amputation – Paid with Payroll

Pulled last-minute from a shelter list, Pepino had been chewing his tail off in anxiety and pain. We rushed him to Oklahoma Vet Specialists, where his tail was amputated before infection spread.

Cost: $1,600.

Funds on hand? None.

We paid it anyway. Pulled from our operations account—which meant skipping two staff paychecks.

Pepino is now recovering in foster, but we’re still trying to raise $400 to cover the gap.

🐕 Adoptable Husky Highlights

🖤 Zues

1,060 days in rescue.

Affectionate, spicy, and full of husky quirks. Zues needs an experienced, patient adopter who gets husky body language and doesn’t mind a few grumbles along the way.

👑 Chaydah

Over 400 days on site. Classic alpha female. Confident, sassy, and loyal once she bonds. Best as the only female in the home.

👑 Ace

620 days in rescue. This wooly-coated water lover lives for splash time and attention. Solo prince only.

🐾 Zabrina

1 year and 4 months. Sugar, spice, and total chaos. If you’ve ever said “I want a husky puppy!”—Zabrina is the full experience.

🐾Ike

Ike is estimated to be about 4 years old, and he’s been with us for 815 days since coming from the Stockton City Shelter. This handsome guy is the definition of laid-back — a “go with the flow, but respect my bubble” kind of vibe.

🐾 Olaf

Olaf is a six-and-a-half-year-old husky with a big personality and an even bigger heart. He’s been with us about 175 days since coming from the Siaka Shelter in California, and he’s been making us laugh ever since.

🐾 Spotlight: Meet The Puppy Farm Littles

This week we introduced a triple threat of pint-sized husky hybrids: Heidi, Piper, and Harper—known around here as The Littles. These girls are Huskimos (Husky + American Eskimo Dog) and bring every bit of husky sass in a compact, apartment-approved package.

  • Heidi (3 yrs, 10 mos): The boldest of the bunch. Queen of escaping, climbing, leash-dragging chaos. Absolutely adorable and ridiculously squishy.

  • Piper (3 yrs, 10 mos): The introvert. Quiet, reserved, and just waiting for a patient person to earn her trust.

  • Harper (8 mos): Heidi’s daughter, full-blown puppy energy with zero chill. Those airplane ears could catch wind.

They’re not bonded and don’t need to go together—but if you want a mini-pack of mischief, they’ll deliver.

🎨 Community Connection: P3 With the G3

This week’s P3 with the G3 was full of:

  • Painting sanctuary dog Princess

  • Creamachinos and dinner

  • Laughter, sweepstakes promos, and weird food debates

  • Pure, unfiltered rescue love

It’s not just about dogs. It’s about the people behind the rescue, too.

🖤 In Loving Memory: Odin

Odin passed away this week.

A soul who held space in so many hearts. We held a live tribute in his honor. We cried. We remembered. And we hugged our huskies a little tighter.

🗣️ Jenni’s Monday Message: “Rescue Doesn’t Work”

This week revealed with a raw and unfiltered truth: rescue doesn’t work without consistent support. We’re burning out. The team is stretched thin. Adoptions are slow. Funds are vanishing faster than we can raise them.

But that $50,000 match? It gives us one last shot to stabilize.

“Next week will be worse. And the week after that… unless we change everything.” – Jenni

If you’ve ever said “I wish I could help,” now is the time.

Donate. Adopt. Share. Show up.

We’re fighting for 204 huskies who can’t fight for themselves.
