This is Ruby, one of our sanctuary dogs..

Ruby is about six years old and lives in one of the triage kennels in the hallway of our blue building, where she keeps Star company while she cleans. It's her routine, and she takes her job very seriously..
.
Ruby has a swayed back that causes chronic pain, and because of that, she can be reactive and has a bite risk. The pain makes it difficult for her to trust that the world won't hurt her, so while she can be incredibly sweet, she also has moments when she needs everyone to respect her boundaries..

And that's okay..
.
It doesn't make her a bad dog. It just means she needs a place where people understand her, listen to what she's telling them, and never ask her to be someone she can't be..

That's what sanctuary is..

For Ruby, we are her safe space. The people she knows. The routine she trusts. The place where she doesn't have to worry about being misunderstood..

She may never leave Husky Halfway House, but she is loved exactly as she is..
