Because fear had taken over..

At around 2 years old, Junior had already learned that the world wasn't always a safe place. Surrendered to Oklahoma City Animal Welfare after repeatedly escaping his yard, he arrived thin, worried, and carrying a sadness that is still visible in his eyes today..

Junior's life was saved in honor of another life that we lost..

Many of you may remember Zee, Simba and Nala's mom. During what was supposed to be a tumor removal surgery, additional tumors were discovered. The kindest gift Jenni could give her was a peaceful goodbye..

In Zee's honor, Junior got his chance..
.
Today, Junior is safe. He has gained weight. He is healthy. And he has come a long way..
.
It took him quite a while before he felt comfortable enough to go down to the dog park. Even now, he doesn't go every time. But when he does, he plays well with the other dogs. He has found friends and discovered that mud puddles and water are among life's greatest treasures..
.
But there is still a piece of him that seems to be waiting for life to let him down again..
.
We don't know exactly what happened before he came to us..
.
We just know that whatever lessons he learned as a puppy, they weren't lessons a young dog should have had to learn..

Junior needs patience..
.
He needs someone willing to let him settle in at his own pace..
.
Someone willing to spend time with him and help him discover that the world can be a safe place..
.
Because underneath those worried eyes is a sweet boy who deserves the chance to stop waiting for the next bad thing and start expecting good things instead..

We love him..

We cheer him on every day..
.
But what Junior really needs is a family of his own..
