At Husky Halfway House, we believe rescue should be simple, transparent, and accessible. Our goal is to make it as easy as possible to do the right thing—give a husky in need a loving home.
No Fees. No Barriers. Just Rescue.
We don’t charge adoption fees. We don’t charge transport fees.
How? Rather than placing the financial burden on adopters, we educate our donors about the true costs of rescue. Additionally, we focus on sustainable revenue generation beyond donations to cover expenses that would typically be offset by adoption fees.
Who Can Adopt?
We don’t limit our adoptions to a narrow geographic area—if you live in the continental United States, you’re eligible. (Apologies to Alaska, and not-so-sorry to Hawaii.)
We don’t require:
❌ A fenced yard
❌ Prior husky experience
❌ Homeownership
❌ A specific family structure (kids, no kids, other pets, no other pets)
What We Do Look For?
While we eliminate unnecessary restrictions, we do require a commitment to responsible husky ownership.
✔ A safe, loving home – Your husky should live primarily indoors, receive proper care, and have the mental and physical stimulation they need to thrive.
✔ A willingness to learn – Huskies are a unique, high-energy, and often challenging breed. If you’re new to huskies, you must be dedicated to educating yourself.
✔ Responsible pet ownership – This includes staying up to date on vaccinations, preventatives, and spay/neuter practices for all pets in your household.
✔ The right fit – We carefully match our dogs with homes based on their needs and your lifestyle. Some huskies have behavioral considerations that make them unsuitable for homes with small children or other pets. Others need active owners who can keep up with their high energy levels.
✔ The resources to commit – Adoption is a lifelong promise. You must have the financial and practical ability to meet your husky’s needs for years to come.
✔ A willingness to stay connected – We’re not just handing over a dog—we’re welcoming you into the H3 family. We require enough openness from our adopters to ensure every husky is safe, loved, and truly at home. Just as you commit to your new Halfway Husky, we commit to you. We’ll be here to support you for the life of your dog, ensuring they thrive in their forever home for years to come.

The process
At Husky Halfway House, our adoption process is designed to set both you and your future husky up for long-term success. Every step is intentional, ensuring that our huskies find loving, committed homes and that adopters are well-prepared for the journey ahead.
Step 1: The Application
Your adoption journey begins with an online application where you'll answer a series of detailed questions. These questions help us understand your lifestyle, experience, and what you're looking for in a husky.
Step 2: The Conversation
Once we review your application, you’ll chat with one of our adoption coordinators. Some questions may be repeated—this helps us clarify your responses and ensure consistency. Our goal is to fully understand your expectations and needs while making sure you're the right fit for one of our huskies.
Step 3: The Review Process
We take adoptions seriously. Our process is thorough and designed to identify responsible adopters while filtering out those with ill intentions. This includes:
✔ A detailed reference check
✔ A credibility review – We will contact your vet and landlord, as well as check into your city's pet limits.
✔ In-depth conversations about husky ownership
While our process is rigorous, we strive to make it a positive and engaging experience for every applicant.
Step 4: The Matchmaking Process
Once we've established that you're ready for a husky, we begin the matchmaking process. We’ll ask if any huskies have caught your eye and why, while also offering our own recommendations based on your lifestyle and needs. Together, we’ll narrow it down through:
✔ FaceTime meet-and-greets
✔ In-depth discussions about expectations
✔ Personalized guidance from our team
Step 5: The Home Check
Before finalizing the adoption, we conduct a virtual home tour to ensure a safe and suitable environment for your new husky. If you can visit our rescue, even better—we love when our huskies get to pick their humans! If not, we provide free transportation anywhere in the continental U.S. to bring your perfect match home.
Step 6: A Lifelong Partnership
While the adoption process may end here, our commitment to you and your husky does not. Adoption is a lifelong journey, and we expect adopters to remain open and honest with us so we can provide support whenever needed. Whether you have questions, need guidance, or just want to share cute photos (please do!), we’re always just a message away.
At H3, we’re more than a rescue—we’re a family. When you adopt from us, we adopt you.
Do we transport? Absolutely! We would love for you to visit the rescue, but if you cannot, a member of our team will bring your new husky to you. We want to meet our families and know where the dog we rescued will be living. We transport all over the country so if you decide to travel and pick your husky up, we would like to stop by at some point to hug them and do an in-person home check.

Do we need fosters? We do not run a traditional foster-based program. Each husky that is rescued is brought to the rescue for rehab and vetting, and when possible, we work to place the husky directly into an adoptive home. In rare cases, we will place a husky at the rescue into foster if he or she needs more home skills before being adopted into a permanent home. You can contact us at howl@huskyhalfwayhouse.org to discuss any current foster needs!
Are your pets spayed and neutered? Be prepared to give medical or valid reason why if your answer is no. In a world where dogs are dying by the thousands in this country every single week, no-one should be considering breeding their pets or taking the risk of pregnancy by not being spayed. If you refuse to spay and neuter your pet for reasons other than what a vet recommends then we are not on the same mission and you need not apply.

What happens if you can no longer keep your dog? You call us first. Please. There is zero reason to rehome the dog you adopted from H3. We are here to support you throughout the dogs entire life. H3 will do the rehoming. H3 chose to save the dog that you adopted and pulled him out of a shelter just hours from being euthanized. Please do not make us have to rerescue our dogs. We are here for you for life. Whatever the issue is, we can help.
We don't require a fence. We have 6 foot metal bars surrounded by a 4ft concrete sidewalk and coyote rollers lining the top.. We will always meet the one husky that can jump it and have had many here that can. So we cannot require a fence. But, if you tell us that you need our husky to be outside unsupervised then we would require that you have containment solid enough to keep them safe. FYI, most huskies can jump a four foot fence.

If you can no longer care for your adopted husky, you MUST return them to us. We are partners in caring for that husky for the rest of their lives. Together, you and we will make sure that the husky will never end up in a shelter again or become at risk for death, neglect or abuse.
All of our Halfway Huskies are fully vetted before getting adopted, including spay/neuter, microchip, vaccinations, flea/tick prevention, heartworm prevention, and dewormer. Thanks to the generosity of our donors, We do not charge adoption fees.
